Silverthorne Police Sergeant Recognized
Sergeant Mark Hanschmidt took home the Summit-Lake Dillon Optimist Club's Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. Hanschmidt is the recipient of the Jason Manspeaker Memorial Optimist International Law Enforcement Award, which recognizes peace officers who excel in community service and work toward youth programs.
Hanschmidt plays a leading role in Silverthorne's holiday time Adopt-an-Angel program and organized the department's successful Safe Summer Kickoff community safety event. This year the Safe Summer Kickoff will be held on Saturday, May 21st from 10am to 2pm. Public Safety departments from around the county will be there and there will be a free barbeque.
The club has been handing out the law enforcement award for nine years. Its name was changed four years ago to honor colorado State Patrol Trooper Jason Manspeaker, who was killed in the line of duty in a car accident at the Eisenhower Tunnel in 2001.
