As a home rule government, the Town of Silverthorne collects its own 2.0 % sales tax. Business owners must obtain state and town sales tax licenses to sell retail merchandise or taxable services within the Town. The Town's sales tax/business license fee is $75.00 per year, and is renewable every December 31st.
Retail sales inside the Town limits are taxed at a rate of 7.775%, which includes 2.9% Colorado State tax, 2% Summit County tax, 0.75% Summit County Transit tax and 2.0% Town of Silverthorne tax
and .125% Summit Combined Housing Authority tax. The Colorado Department of Revenue collects state and county taxes and is the agency where businesses register trade names. State application forms and general information for conducting business in Colorado is available by calling that number. Colorado Business Registration forms, CR100, and instructions are available on the state's website, http://www.revenue.state.co.us/. Summit County, the county in which Silverthorne is located, requires no business license.
The Town also requires hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, property management companies, and homeowners who short-term lease their Silverthorne residences, to collect a 2.0% lodging tax . All businesses, property managers, and homeowners collecting the lodging tax will need to have a Silverthorne Business/Sales Tax license and a Colorado Sales Tax License. This 2.0% lodging tax is remitted directly to the Town of Silverthorne along with the 2% sales tax.
