How many males and females can be on a coed volleyball team?

USVBA rule interpreter, Bill Madara, says it is a self-governing rule and leagues can be set up however best suits each particular league.

So, here is our rule:

Coed volleyball teams can play with 4, 5, or 6 players. The number of males must be equal to or less than the number of females on the court. (Except: when a team is playing with only 4 players, there can be three males and one female, or when a team is playing with only 5 players, there can be three males and two females..)

The following is a list of possible team combinations:

6 females + 0 males
5 females + 1 male
5 females + 0 males
4 females + 2 males
4 females + 1 male
4 females + 0 males
3 females + 3 males
3 females + 2 males
3 females + 1 male
2 females + 3 males
2 females + 2 males
1 female + 3 males

The flexibility of having many valid team combinations will help decrease forfeitures and increase the number of legal games played.
