This summer, a simple walk down the Blue River Trail has turned into something extraordinary thanks to community-wide collaboration. This new project stemmed from conversations between the Silverthorne Art Board and the Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Department, resulting in eight ordinary trail posts becoming full-scale art installations. The Blue River Trail is now not just a place to recreate, but a destination for creativity, discovery and public art.

From Idea to Reality

The idea for the trail post art installation originated from conversations with the Silverthorne Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Department about ways to encourage trail users to read and follow trail signs. To attract attention to the signs and the safety information they contain, the Art Board saw an opportunity to bring the trail posts to life as works of art.

The Board announced a call for artists to reimagine the posts along the Blue River Trail. The result is a first-of-its-kind art exhibit in Silverthorne - and perhaps in all of Summit County.

“We’re treating it kind of like a scavenger hunt exhibit,” said Sydney Drake, Silverthorne’s arts, events and venues director. “We hope to keep doing this every summer and add to it, so people will continue to walk the Blue River Trail and take in the arts, while gleaning insights from the trail posts to keep them safe.”

An Outdoor Gallery of Creativity

Completed in early August, the trail post art exhibit stretches from Thirsty Pika Taproom to Willow Grove Open Space. Along the way, each trail post reveals a different creative surprise - from yarn bombing and mural painting to ceramic sculptures and laser-cut woodwork.

It’s not just about beautifying the trail. The variety of mediums invites people to linger and explore, looking for the next trail post and what it will bring. Kids, families and art lovers alike can walk the path and see what new creation is waiting at the next post.

Each stop offers something new - from whimsical to bold - and together, they create a playful outdoor art gallery that is hopefully just the beginning. With strong community response and artist enthusiasm, the plan is to add new installations each summer, growing the exhibit into an ongoing tradition.

El Arte de los Postes del Sendero Añade Toques de Color al Aendero Blue River Trail

Este verano, un simple paseo por el sendero Blue River Trail se ha convertido en algo extraordinario gracias a la colaboración de toda la comunidad. De la Idea a la Realidad

La idea de la instalación artística en los postes del sendero surgió de conversaciones con el Departamento de Parques, Recreación, Espacios Abiertos y Senderos de Silverthorne sobre formas de animar a los usuarios del sendero a leer y seguir las señales. Para llamar la atención sobre las señales y la información de seguridad que contienen, la Mesa Directiva de Arte vio la oportunidad de dar vida a los postes del sendero como obras de arte.

La Mesa convocó a los artistas para que reimaginaran los postes a lo largo del sendero Blue River Trail. El resultado es una exposición de arte única en Silverthorne, y quizás en todo el Condado de Summit.

«Lo estamos tratando como una especie de exposición de búsqueda del tesoro», dijo Sydney Drake, directora de arte, eventos y recintos de Silverthorne. «Esperamos seguir haciéndolo cada verano y ampliarlo, para que la gente siga recorriendo el sendero Blue River Trail y disfrutando del arte, al tiempo que obtiene información de los postes del sendero para mantenerse a salvo».

A lo largo del camino, cada poste del sendero revela una sorpresa creativa diferente, desde yarn bombing y pinturas murales hasta esculturas de cerámica y trabajos en madera cortados con láser.

No se trata solo de embellecer el sendero. La variedad de medios invita a la gente a detenerse y explorar, buscando el siguiente poste del sendero y lo que les deparará. Los niños, las familias y los amantes del arte pueden recorrer el sendero y ver qué nueva creación les espera en el siguiente poste.
