Four Petitions filed for Four Silverthorne Town Council Seats Open in April 2018

Post Date:01/25/2018 10:17 AM

Silverthorne, Colorado – January 24, 2018 –  The Town of Silverthorne recently solicited applications from citizens interested in running for four seats to be available on the Town Council beginning in April 2018.  Positions to be available in April 2018 included Silverthorne Mayor and three Silverthorne Town Council positions.  As of the Monday January 22, 2018, 5:00 p.m. deadline to file candidate petitions, the following individuals applied for the vacant seats:

Ann-Marie Sandquist – Mayor

Kelly Baldwin – Town Council

Derrick Fowler – Town Council

Kevin McDonald – Town Council

Per Silverthorne Town Code Article VIII Sec. 1-8-3, the Silverthorne Town Clerk will recommend that the Silverthorne Town Council direct that the municipal election, scheduled for April 3, 2018, be cancelled due to there not being more candidates than vacant seats on Council to be filled.

Sec. 1-8-3. - Cancellation of elections: In connection with any Town election, if the only matter before the voters is the election of persons to office and if, at the close of business on the sixty-third (63rd) day before the election, there are not more candidates than offices to be filled at such election, including candidates filing affidavits of intent pursuant to Section 1-8-2, the Town Clerk shall cancel the election and declare the candidates elected. Upon such declaration by the Town Clerk, the candidates shall be deemed elected effective upon the date of the cancelled election. Notice of such cancellation shall be published, if possible, in order to inform the Town electors, and notice of such cancellation shall be posted at each public place (if a polling place election), and in not less than one other public place.

In accordance with Silverthorne Town Code, all four candidates will be deemed elected on April 3, 2018 and will be sworn into office at the regular Council Meeting on April 11, 2018.  Cancelling the election will save the Town nearly $10,000 in election costs.

The Town of Silverthorne would like to thank the candidates for their willingness to serve their community, and a reception will be held in March (details forthcoming) for the community to meet the new and returning members of Silverthorne Town Council.   The Town would also like to thank outgoing Mayor Bruce Butler and Russ Camp for their many years of service, and a public event (details forthcoming) is being planned to celebrate their accomplishments in public service.
