First Fridays are the Town of Silverthorne’s signature community event series. Since 2018, the first Friday of each month has brought friends, neighbors, and visitors together. The arts, food, and music highlight the town’s talented artists, businesses and musicians. In fall 2025, the Silverthorne Art Board called for submissions to select an artist to capture the spirit of First Fridays and design new event materials for 2026.

"The Art Board has been talking about making an ‘artful poster' for the First Friday events for a while. The call was for a local artist to create a unique design for posters, shirts, and Klean Kanteen cups to raise money at the May Local’s Appreciation Party for local nonprofits, “explained events coordinator Marcus Miller.

From the many creative submissions, Megan Quirk, founder of Quirks of Art Co., was selected. The announcement came as a surprise to her; she recalls, "I was so excited when I saw the email that my design was selected. I am new to the arts, and it is so affirming to have my work displayed publicly," she said.

Megan, who studied environmental education, has always enjoyed making things—doodling while babysitting, drawing while traveling and finding ways to incorporate art into her work. She worked at Keystone Science School and, during COVID, at the Summit County Library, where she updated the seed library, offered a variety of educational craft programs for many age groups and created watercolor illustrations. About five years ago, after she and her husband got chickens, her art journey took flight. Her artwork is playful and whimsical, often featuring her chickens as the main characters, living adventurous mountain lives. She describes it: "Chickens are such amazing creatures and so incredibly smart. Drawing them doing human activities is so much fun and makes me so happy."

After leaving her previous job, Megan spent four months traveling with her husband, visiting places like Japan and New Zealand. During this time, she focused on her digital art and dove into designing custom maps and began selling her work at art markets, the Art Spot, and online. “The Art Spot, and Mallory (the Art Spot coordinator) specifically, have provided such great support for me. They send me all the calls for art and have helped me connect with the art community in Summit County,” Megan noted.

For the First Friday call for art, Megan decided to step outside her comfort zone. “I wanted to use all the colors from the First Friday logo and illustrate what these events mean. Each month is different, and they bring people together in a special way. It’s about community, and I tried my best to capture that.”

The First Friday posters and t-shirts featuring Megan’s design will be available starting at April First Friday to celebrate the newly designated Silverthorne Creative District. El Arte de Megan Quirk Aporta un Toque de Fantasía a los Primeros Viernes de Silverthorne

Los First Fridays son la serie de eventos comunitarios más emblemática del Pueblo de Silverthorne. Desde 2018, el primer viernes de cada mes reúne a amigos, vecinos y visitantes. El arte, la gastronomía y la música ponen de relieve el talento de los artistas, los comercios y los músicos del pueblo. En otoño de 2025, la Mesa Directiva de Arte de Silverthorne convocó un concurso para seleccionar a un artista que capturara el espíritu de los "First Fridays" y diseñara nuevos materiales para el evento de 2026.

"La Junta de Arte llevaba tiempo hablando de crear un 'cartel artístico para los eventos de los Primeros Viernes.' La convocatoria buscaba que un artista local creara un diseño único para carteles, camisetas y vasos Klean Kanteen con el fin de recaudar fondos en la Fiesta de Agradecimiento a los Vecinos de mayo para organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro locales", explicó el coordinador de eventos, Marcus Miller.

De entre las numerosas propuestas creativas, fue seleccionada Megan Quirk, fundadora de Quirks of Art Co. El anuncio fue una sorpresa para ella; recuerda: "Me emocioné mucho cuando vi el correo electrónico en el que me comunicaban que mi diseño había sido seleccionado. Soy nueva en el mundo del arte, y es muy gratificante que mi trabajo se exponga públicamente", afirmó.

Megan, que estudió educación ambiental, siempre ha disfrutado creando cosas: garabateando mientras cuidaba niños, dibujando durante sus viajes y buscando formas de incorporar el arte a su trabajo. Trabajó en la Keystone Science School y, durante la pandemia de COVID, en la Biblioteca del Condado de Summit, donde actualizó la biblioteca de semillas, ofreció diversos programas educativos de manualidades para diferentes edades y creó ilustraciones en acuarela. Hace unos cinco años, después de que ella y su marido compraran gallinas, su trayectoria artística despegó. Sus obras son divertidas y originales, y a menudo tienen como protagonistas a sus gallinas, que viven aventuras en la montaña. Ella lo describe así: "Las gallinas son unas criaturas increíbles y muy inteligentes. Dibujarlas realizando actividades humanas es muy divertido y me hace muy feliz".

Tras dejar su anterior trabajo, Megan pasó cuatro meses viajando con su marido, visitando lugares como Japón y Nueva Zelanda. Durante este tiempo, se centró en su arte digital y se sumergió en el diseño de mapas personalizados, y comenzó a vender su trabajo en mercados de arte, en The Art Spot y en línea. "El Art Spot, y Mallory (la coordinadora del Art Spot) en concreto, me han brindado un apoyo increíble. Me envían todas las convocatorias de arte y me han ayudado a conectar con la comunidad artística del Condado de Summit", señaló Megan.

Para la convocatoria de arte del First Friday, Megan decidió salir de su zona de confort. "Quería utilizar todos los colores del logotipo del First Friday e ilustrar lo que significan estos eventos. Cada mes es diferente, y unen a la gente de una manera especial. Se trata de la comunidad, y he hecho todo lo posible por plasmar eso".

Los volantes y camisetas del First Friday con el diseño de Megan estarán disponibles a partir del First Friday de abril para celebrar el recién designado Distrito Creativo de Silverthorne.
