Town of Silverthorne, CO – (April 10, 2026) – In October of 2025, the Town of Silverthorne completed the development of the community’s first Energy Action Plan. The plan was created in collaboration with Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy program and designed to build on the Town’s Sustainability Strategic Plan. It focuses specifically on near-term opportunities for energy action that advance Silverthorne’s long-term sustainability goals, including:
Community Energy Use Goals
- Reduce per capita consumption of energy (electricity and natural gas) by 2029, below a baseline consumption of 145 MMBtu per person in 2023.
- Continue to increase the procurement of electricity from renewable sources for buildings in Silverthorne by 2029, from a baseline of 45% of total electricity consumption in 2023.
Town Energy Use Goals
- By the end of 2029, reduce energy use intensity (EUI) (the amount of energy used per square foot of space) in Town government buildings from the baseline year of 2023 (191 kBtu/sf), including all new and expanded buildings operational by then.
- By the end of 2029, increase the amount of electricity generated from solar panels over the 2023 baseline, by adding solar panels to Town government buildings and grounds.
The Town is now working with Xcel Energy Partners in Energy to begin implementation of the strategies identified in the Energy Action Plan. Early steps will include:
- Completing an energy audit of all Town facilities to identify opportunities for efficiency and renewable energy generation, and
- Creating an outreach campaign to raise awareness of opportunities and incentives that can help local residents and businesses save energy and money.
While implementation of the Energy Action Plan is in its early stages, the Town will provide updates on progress and milestones through official Silverthorne communication channels.
