Coach Ben WayLong-Standing Coach Retires from Silverthorne Recreation Center Gymnastics Program

Coach Ben Way led the Silverthorne Gymnastics Program for 28 Years

After 28 years, Silverthorne Recreation Center gymnastics coach Ben Way is transitioning to semi-retirement and will begin coaching part-time. Coach Ben joined the Town of Silverthorne in January 1998 and has since taught hundreds of kids in programs ranging from parent-taught gymnastics and tumble tots to the competitive Silverthorne Storm Gymnastics Team.

“I’ve always felt happy teaching kids how to move,” says Coach Ben. “During my time with the Silverthorne Recreation Center, I’ve enjoyed getting to make an impact on kids and families by introducing so many students to gymnastics and safe movement.”

Coach Sara Holisky will take over the Silverthorne Recreation Gymnastics program and the Silverthorne Storm Gymnastics Team. Sarah has been coaching with the Town of Silverthorne for 13 years and has experience introducing tots to the sport, as well as coaching athletes at the competitive level.

“I’ve learned so much working alongside Coach Ben over the past 13 years and am excited to continue his legacy and impact on the community,” says Coach Sara. “We are also in the midst of an exciting expansion at the Silverthorne Recreation Center, and I look forward to leading and growing the Town’s gymnastics program with the addition of the brand-new gymnastics space.”

The new dedicated gymnastics space is part of the 24,690-square-foot Silverthorne Recreation Center expansion project, which is expected to be completed in fall 2026. The new gymnastics area will feature an in-ground trampoline and tumble trak, foam pit, pit bar, and a spring floor, allowing for new classes and additional programming.

The Silverthorne Recreation Center currently offers a variety of gymnastics programs, from tumbling programs for little ones as young as 1.5 years old to the competitive Silverthorne Storm Gymnastics Team. The Silverthorne Storm Gymnastics Team is a recreationally competitive team that competes statewide through the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) league.

Community members who wish to celebrate Coach Ben’s semi-retirement are invited to Bluebird Market on Monday, May 11, from 4 to 6 p.m.
