A new mural was recently completed in Silverthorne’s Creative District, inspired by the beauty of Summit County and by local musicians who have helped make Silverthorne the creative community it is. Completed by international artist Thomas Evans, known as Detour, the mural took about two weeks to complete and is located on the new parking garage in the Fourth North Development along Adams Avenue and across the street from Angry James Brewery.

Artist Detour is known for his vibrant, colorful murals that often depict lifelike portraits of residents from the neighborhoods he paints. While researching designs and ideas for his new mural in Silverthorne, Detour drew inspiration from a photo of local musicians Arnie J. Green and Leon Joseph Littlebird taken by Tom Fricke.

“I am so honored to have my image alongside my dear departed friend, Arnie J. Green, on this beautiful mural,” says Leon Joseph Littlebird, who is pictured on the right side of the mural. “Thank you, Town of Silverthorne, for including me in this and for supporting artists who make their living performing in Summit County.”

The new mural not only celebrates artists who have had an immense impact on the community but also serves as an anchor point in Silverthorne’s growing downtown and newly designated Creative District.

“Silverthorne is so thrilled to have the artwork of an internationally known artist right here in the heart of our community,” says Arts, Events, and Venues Director Sydney Drake. “Not only has Detour captured the spirit of Silverthorne’s art and music scene through his likeness of Arnie and Leon, but this mural visually draws people right to Silverthorne’s new Creative District. It is incredible seeing the vibrant colors of this mural from higher-up points in the Town and County, and it serves as a beacon to let people passing by know how Silverthorne’s art scene is rooted in the community that has created it.”
