Business License Application

Business Licenses

A regular Business License is required for:

All businesses located in Town and operating on a year-round basis, a seasonal basis, or from a home
Any business maintaining one or more employees or agents in Town
Any business regularly sending one or more employees or agents into the Town four (4) or more days in a calendar year
Any business that owns, leases, rents or otherwise exercises control over real or personal property within the Town four (4) or more days in a calendar year
The 2026 Business licenses fee is $100

Business includes all types of locations, occupations, professions, enterprises, establishments and all other kinds of activities and matters, together with all devices, machines, vehicles, and other appurtenances used therein, any of which are conducted for profit or pecuniary benefit, either directly or indirectly in the Town or anywhere else within its jurisdiction. Business shall not include the trade of a peddler or solicitor, as defined in the Town Code at Section 1-7-22.

Renewal

Licenses expire on December 31 and shall be renewed annually by January 31
The renewal fee for 2026 is $100 and a late fee of $25 a month shall be assessed for renewals completed after January 31
License fees are not transferable to new ownership and cannot be prorated

Home Occupations

Businesses operating from homes require:

A review process by the Community Development Department
Home Occupation and Food Truck businesses must submit a notarized Landowner Authorization letter containing the following information:
- Date the authorization is signed.
- Full address of the property.
- Name of your business.
- Type or nature of the business (e.g., food truck, home office).
- Lease length or authorization period.
- Full name of the property owner.
- Full name of the tenant.
- The property owner’s signature.
- The tenant’s signature.
- The document must be notarized for authenticity.

Food Truck Operators

Food truck operators are required to hold a valid Town of Silverthorne Business License and must submit the following items along with the business license application:

A valid retail food license from the Summit County Environmental Health Department.
A narrative briefly describing the business operations (i.e., business name, hours of operation, days of week, etc.).
A notarized letter of authorization from the landowner, allowing the food truck to be parked in the proposed location.
A site plan drawing of the proposed location of the food truck. The proposed location may not impede any fire lanes, drive aisles, pedestrian pathways, and it may not take up any delineated parking spaces.
Once the Town of Silverthorne Community Development Department recieves these items, they will be reviewed for compliance with Town Code and Comprehensive Plan requirements before the business license can be issued.

Exempt Activities

A business license is not required for:

Temporary public exhibitions or entertainment, the proceeds of which are exclusively for religious, education, political or governmental agencies
No license shall be required for any marketplace facilitator, marketplace seller or multichannel seller as defined by Chapter 1, Article X
