What is the SPORT Committee?
SPORT stands for Silverthorne Parks, Open Space, Recreation and Trails. In March 1997 the Silverthorne Town Council passed a motion to recognize this committee as a formal supported Town Committee. In November 1998 the citizens of Silverthorne passed an election question supporting a 2% Lodging Tax of which 85% would go towards capital projects relating to Parks, Open Space, Recreation, and Trails and 15% to market the Town of Silverthorne’s amenities.
The first SPORT board members were appointed in January of 1999. Being an Advisory Committee to the Silverthorne Town Council, SPORT’s main purpose is to review, plan, organize volunteers, and make recommendations on the best use of the Lodging Tax monies to the Town Council, using the Silverthorne Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan as their guide.
