Kevin McDonald, Mayor of Silverthorne
Kevin McDonald is honored to be the Mayor for the Town of Silverthorne. Silverthorne has been his full-time home since 1993, when he moved to Town with his wife Cindi and their two children, who were ages 3 and 1 at the time. He served as President of FirstBank of Silverthorne and enjoyed serving locals with the basics of banking: accounts, car loans, mortgages, etc. Some of his fondest memories are the conversations he had with customers, "I learned about their jobs and businesses, their families, their challenges…many of which our family shared. Those conversations continued after my bank career when my partner and I operated a small financial planning business for ten years."
Kevin says, "It’s funny how things change over time but key issues remain top of mind. Even decades ago, child care was an issue: Cindi and I performed “schedule triage” every day to see who was picking up which kid from which daycare or school, sports practice or event. Housing was expensive, and the cost of living high (still is). Health care was pretty limited (the nearest hospital was in Vail): that accessibility has grown over the years, but affordability is tougher than ever. Traffic was manageable but obviously has become less so."
Kevin previously served on Silverthorne Town Council from 2006-2010 and again from 2017-2022. Key moments during those years included the purchase and development of the Smith Ranch neighborhood and working with the County to open the Wildflower preschool. He was on the Board of the Summit Foundation (past President, past VP), was part of the original Silverthorne Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC), served as Board member of the Summit Combined Housing Authority (SCHA) and participated in other events and nonprofits. He has also worked at FIRC seasonally as a health care guide, which helps him stay in touch with current family challenges.
